Consisting of a full range of copper networking products and fiber optic solutions that constitute the most cost-effective alternative to conventional copper-based networks, the department's 3MTM VolitionTM Fiber Optic Network provides a uniquely economical path for the inevitable migration of many networks from copper to fiber optic media. 3M has provided the 3Volition fiber optic network to support IE"S Center for Manufacturing Enterprise Integration

ABB Robotics Partnership

ABB Robotics is the world's leading manufacturer of industrial robots with over 100,000 robots installed world-wide. ABB-robots are used throughout the world for spot welding, arc welding, machine tending, material handling, deburring, picking, packing, palletizing, and assembly. Sophisticated software products make our robots perform better and increase the productivity. ABB has partnered with Penn State in equipping the CIM-Robotics with six IRB 1200 robots. Also two IRB 2400, an IRB 6400 and a welding robot are integrated into laboratories for advanced graduate studies and research.

Alcoa Mill Products

Alcoa Mill Products is the world's leading producer and manager of primary aluminum, fabricated aluminum and alumina facilities. BioReliance is a contract company that tests biopharmaceutical products for bacterial, viral, and/or fungal contamination. CoCreate Partnership

CoCreate helps manufacturing and engineering companies boost revenues by providing products and services for the most critical stage of product development: The design phase. Fifteen years ago, CoCeate began developing CAD software for design engineers. Today, they are pioneers in the emerging field of collaboration. Their software lets experts from around the world design products and interact with one another online in real time. Penn State IE students are among the first in the country who are able to practice collaborative engineering design at the global enterprise level, thanks to a generous donation of software from CoCreate Software, Inc. CoCreate's powerful software package One Space V.5 is a virtual conference room where multiple engineering design and production teams-each using different computer-assisted design (CAD) software and/or operating systems-can meet for real-time collaboration and problem solving.

Donsco, Inc.

Donsco, a family owned and operated business located in central Pennsylvania, is one of the largest jobbing foundries on the East Coast. DSM Machinery

DSM Machinery was founded in 1970 based on a philosophy of offering quality equipment and unparalleled service. In 1993, DSM joined Gosiger, Inc. and now has even more resources to offer the area's customer base. DSM provides CNC Turning, Milling, EDM, Swiss-Type turning and Sawing equipment along with manual and special high production machines. DSM has kindly provided entrusted Haas machinery for use in the IE laboratories.

FARO Technologies, Inc.

FARO designs, develops and markets portable, computerized measurement devices and software. FARO's products allow manufacturers to perform 3-D inspections of parts and assemblies on the shop floor. Federal Express

FedEx provides access to a growing global marketplace through a network of supply chain, transportation, business and related information services. Haas Automation Partnership

The largest machine tool builder in the United States, Haas Automation manufactures a full line of CNC vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, CNC lathes, rotary tables and 5C indexers. Haas machine tools and rotary products are built to deliver higher accuracy, repeatability and durability than any other machine tools on the market. To date, Haas Automation has sold more than 30,000 rotary tables and 25,000 CNC machines throughout the world. The company currently ships more CNC machines per month than any other U.S. manufacturer. Haas Automation graciously supports the Penn State Haas Technical Center, which is home to twelve machines used for teaching and research.

IBM-Rational Partnership

Rational software from IBM helps organizations create business value by improving their software development capability. The Rational software development platform integrates software engineering best practices, tools, and services. With it, organizations thrive in an on demand world by being more responsive, resilient, and focused. Rational's standards-based, cross-platform solution helps software development teams create and extend business applications, embedded systems and software products. Penn State’s IE Department was recently approved to participate in Rational’s Software Engineering for Educational Development (SEED) Program. Under this program, Rational provided IE a floating license to install Rational Suite Analyststudio valued at $139,900. Rational’s SEED program represents a long-term commitment by Rational Software to help ensure the adoption of good software engineering disciplines. IE is fortunate to be able to participate in this program.

ifm efector, inc. Partnership

ifm efector, inc. and ifm electronic are manufacturers and providers of technical service for instrumentation of complex processes. ifm efector, inc. has provided the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering more than $15,000 worth of proximity switches and related interfaces for manufacturing and robotic activities in the Department. Most of the switches are being used as part of the Robotics Lab for IE450 where students learn advanced programming of robots and CNC Machines.

Ingersoll Rand Partnership

Ingersoll Rand is a leading innovation and solutions provider for the major global markets of Security and Safety, Climate Control, Industrial Solutions and Infrastructure. The company's diverse product portfolio encompasses such leading industrial and commercial brands as Schlage locks and security solutions; Thermo King transport temperature control equipment; Hussmann commercial and retail refrigeration equipment; Bobcat compact equipment; Club Car golf cars and utility vehicles; Torrington bearings and components; PowerWorks microturbines; and Ingersoll-Rand industrial and construction equipment. IQS, Inc. Partnership

IQS, Inc. is an international pioneer in integrated business management and quality management software. Since 1986, they have led the way in the exploration of innovative, reliable approaches to managing business operations and processes in the industrial, government and service sectors.

IQS has provided a gift valued over $560,000 to IE. The gift, comprised of IQS Business System software includes a 10-concurrent user license and the IQS API Toolkit for use in education and research activities in IE. This state-of-the-art technology will enhance the quality of education and research at Penn State.

Kellogg Company

Kellogg Company is the world’s leading producer of cereal and a leading producer of convenience foods, including cookies, crackers, toaster pastries, cereal bars, fruit snacks, frozen waffles, and veggie foods. Lincoln Electric Partnership

Lincoln Electric was founded in 1895 and today is the world leader in the design, development and manufacture of arc welding products, robotic welding systems, plasma and oxyfuel cutting equipment. Headquartered in Cleveland, the Company has manufacturing operations, joint ventures and alliances in a worldwide network of distributors and sales offices covering more than 160 countries. Lincoln employees global workforce totals approximately 7,000. Recognized as the welding experts, the Company provides leading technology products and solutions. From its early beginnings, Lincoln pioneered technological advancements and improvements in arc welding consumables and equipment. Lincoln has graciously partnered with Penn State Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering to equip the welding laboratory with state-of-the-art arc welding and plasma cutting power supplies. This includes new Lincoln developed Surface Tension Technology (STT) equipment and Wave Designer Pro Software that permits complete computer control of power supply waveforms for enhanced welding arc control. This equipment is being used by more than 300 Penn State IE and ME students each year.

The P&G community consists of nearly 98,000 people working in almost 80 countries worldwide. What began as a small, family-operated soap and candle company now provides products and services of superior quality and value to consumers in 140 countries. P&G has one of the largest and strongest portfolios of trusted brands, including Pampers, Tide, Ariel, Always, Pantene, Bounty, Folgers, Pringles, Charmin, Downy, Iams, Crest, Actonel and Olay. Proctor & Gamble has generously donated $45,000 to various departments within Penn State's College of Engineering. Recently, IE received a $5000 donation from P&G which was used for maintaining excellence in the delivery of the undergraduate program. The gift funds were used to purchase software for the student computer laboratories and supplies for use in the FAME laboratory.

Skills of Central PA

Skills of Central PA is a private non-profit organization providing support to individuals with special needs. Their mission is to create opportunities and provide support for individuals who need specialized services to acquire the necessary skills and experiences to participate in all aspects of personal and community life. Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) software from Visual Paradigm is designed for a wide range of users, including Software Engineers, System Analysts, Business Analysts, System Architects alike, who are interested in building large scale software systems reliably through the use of the Object-Oriented approach. The Visual Paradigm software package supports the latest standards of Java and Unified Modeling Language notations and provides the industry's full round-trip code generation and code reverse engineering support for Java. The transitions from analysis to design and then to implementation are seamlessly integrated within the CASE tool, thus significantly reducing efforts in all stages of the software development life cycle. Penn State's IE Department was recently approved to participate in Visual Paradigm's Academic Partners Program. Under this program, Visual Paradigm provided IE a floating license to install Visual Paradigm for UML package valued at $30,000. This educational program represents a long-term commitment by Visual Paradigm to help ensure the adoption of good software engineering disciplines. IE is fortunate to be able to participate in this program.

Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart is a business leader in retail stores, with more than 1.8 million associates worldwide and nearly 6,500 stores and wholesale clubs across 15 countries. West Penn Allegheny Health System

West Penn Allegheny Health System is comprised of some of the oldest and best-known health care facilities in western Pennsylvania. The system's hospitals are in the vanguard of patient care, medical research and health sciences education. West Penn has partnered with the IE department through the Corporate Sponsored Projects Program, an industry-university partnership serving to integrate design, manufacturing, service engineering and business realities into the engineering curriculum.

Xilinx Partnership

Xilinx is the world's leading supplier of complete programmable logic solutions, including advanced integrated circuits, software design tools, predefined system functions delivered as cores, and unparalleled field engineering support. Xilinx develops, manufactures, and markets a broad line of advanced integrated circuits, software design tools and intellectual property. Customers use the automated tools and intellectual property -- predefined system-level functions delivered as software cores -- from Xilinx and its partners to program the chips to perform custom logic operations. Xilinx programmable logic solutions help minimize risks for manufacturers of electronic equipment by shortening the time required to develop and bring new products to market. Xilinx’s University Program provided IE with 480 devices, an APX board and multilinx cable totaling more than $244,000 and looks forward to a broadening relationship with Xilinx.
