The M. S. degree in Industrial
Engineering at Penn State is research oriented. The student
can conduct research in a broad range of areas such as Operations
Research, Manufacturing, Ergonomics, Quality Engineering or
some combination of these. A dual-degree in Industrial Engineering
and Operations Research is available, as well as options in
Manufacturing Engineering, Human Factors/Ergonomics Engineering
and Quality Engineering. Thus, a student seeking a M.S. degree
can obtain one of the following degrees.
- M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering
- M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering with Manufacturing
Engineering Option
- M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering with Human Factors/Ergonomics
Engineering Option
- M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering with Quality Engineering
Option
- M.S. dual degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations
Research
The application for enrollment in an option is given in Appendix
A. The requirements for the options in Manufacturing Engineering,
Human Factors / Ergonomics Engineering and Quality Engineering
are given in appendices B, C and D respectively and the requirements
for the dual degree can be found in Appendix E. The options
appear as a statement on the students’ transcripts,
but not on the diplomas, whereas the dual-degree appears on
the diplomas. Students should consult with their advisors
regarding courses to be taken for the options and the dual
degree. All applications for the options and dual-degree
must be submitted to the appropriate authorities, well in
advance of graduation.
