Master of Engineering Program (M. Eng.)

The objective of this degree is to prepare students with a breadth of technical and managerial skills to make significant immediate contributions in their jobs. It is directed towards students who have completed a baccalaureate degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution. The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering is committed to provide the highest quality graduate programs so that students leaving the programs will be well prepared for professional activities in their careers. In a broader sense the department wishes to assist students in preparation for a technical career in industrial engineering. In this spirit, the Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering program has been created for students interested in a professional masters degree.

The students pursuing a M. Eng. degree can focus on a broad range of areas such as Operations Research, Manufacturing, Ergonomics, Quality Engineering or some combination of these. A dual-degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research is available, as well as options in Manufacturing Engineering, Human Factors/Ergonomics Engineering and Quality Engineering. Thus, a student seeking a M.Eng. degree can obtain one of the following degrees.

  • M. Eng. degree in Industrial Engineering
  • M. Eng. degree in Industrial Engineering with Manufacturing Engineering Option
  • M. Eng. degree in Industrial Engineering with Human Factors/Ergonomics Engineering Option
  • M. Eng. degree in Industrial Engineering with Quality Engineering Option

The application for enrollment in an option is given in Appendix A. The requirements for the options in Manufacturing Engineering, Human Factors / Ergonomics Engineering and Quality Engineering are given in appendices B, C and D respectively and the requirements for the dual degree can be found in Appendix E. The options appear as a statement on the students’ transcripts, but not on the diplomas, whereas the dual-degree appears on the diplomas. Students should consult with their advisors regarding courses to be taken for the options and the dual degree. All applications for the options and dual-degree must be submitted to the appropriate authorities, well in advance of graduation.
