How Do I Learn to Be an Industrial Engineer?

Our philosophy of education is hands on: You learn by doing. It's that simple. You learn engineering by being an engineer.

Mentored by outstanding faculty, you'll take your textbook learning for test drives in our state-of-the-art laboratories. You'll do everything from pouring molten aluminum to programming robots. And you'll do it in some of the best facilities in the country, on advanced equipment and software available nowhere else.

At Penn State, we've taken "hands-on" one step further: You can learn how all the individual pieces work together in an actual on-site manufacturing facility-the Factory for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) Lab.

Here's the ultimate in hands-on: You can manufacture your own products from concept to production in the FAME Lab. An innovative, two-semester course places you, with support from faculty advisors, firmly in charge of the entire design and manufacturing process.

This is where it all comes together: industrial engineering, real-world communication, teamwork, and business strategy.
