Human Performance Assessment and Modeling (HPAM) Laboratory

The Human Performance Assessment and Modeling Laboratory (HPAM) is directed by Dr. Ling Rothrock and is located in 240 Leonhard Building. The research focuses on the understanding of operator constraints, abilities, and goals in the context of dynamic task environments and the design of systems to facilitate effective and efficient man-machine interactions. Research within HPAM form a mutually-supporting triad with human-in-the-loop simulations informing the development of inductive learning models and testing hypotheses grounded in cognitive science. HPAM equipment includes an array of workstations. The lab develops and maintains versions of the Aegis Simulation Platform which is used by multiple government and academic institutions to conduct studies of human cognition in a complex and dynamic environment. Research tools include discrete event simulations,
evolutionary computation methods, and opportunistic reasoning techniques.
