Human Subjects Testing Laboratory

The Human Subjects Testing Lab is an interdisciplinary laboratory for the testing of human subjects, shared by a variety of faculty, primarily in the human factors area. The room is subdivided into a waiting area with sink and two smaller testing chambers, one of which is set-up with eye-tracking equipment.

A variety of experiments have been conducted in the Human Subjects Testing Lab, including:

  • Identifying visualization strategies on the design efficiency of a cantilever I-beam
  • Measuring the effects of risk visualization representations on subject resource allocation strategies in a homeland defense task
  • Estimating the physical workload imposed by wearing a respirator from heart rate changes and individual characteristics
  • Evaluating user acceptance of new product feature upgrades
