Ravindran publishes a pair of OR textbooks

Dr. A. Ravi Ravindran, professor of industrial engineering in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, has recently published two textbooks.

Operations Research Applications (CRC Press, 2009), provides an all-inclusive overview of OR applications, focused on functional and industry-specific OR applications. Each chapter is devoted to a specific application area, including airlines, e-commerce, energy systems, finance, the military, supply chain management and water resources.

Operations Research Methodologies (CRC Press, 2009), is a guide to OR techniques, covering fundamental and emerging methodologies. The book not only covers the fundamental OR models and methods, such as linear, nonlinear, queuing, and decision analysis, but also emerging OR techniques, including metaheuristics, robust optimizations, and large-scale networks. Each chapter gives an overview of a particular OR methodology, illustrates successful applications, and provides references to computer software availability.

Dr. Ravindran teaches courses in the area of operations research at the undergraduate level and courses in multicriteria decision making and supply chain engineering at graduate level. His research interests include supply chain modeling, portfolio optimization/financial engineering, goal programming, interactive methods for multiple criteria optimization, applications of mathematical programming to health planning, quality control, transportation networks, hazardous waste disposal, and system reliability.
