The first Industrial Engineering department in the world

Voigt selected as PSIMES Faculty Appreciation Award Winner

The Penn State Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Society (PSIMES), along with The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, are pleased to announce the winner of the first annual PSIMES Faculty Appreciation Award.

Dr. Robert Voigt, an IE faculty member of nearly twenty years, was selected to receive the 2009 PSIMES Faculty Appreciation Award. Voigt teaches courses in materials, material processing, and manufacturing processes. His research interests include manufacturing process control and improvement, processing of engineering alloys, and the development of environmentally sound manufacturing processes.

Voigt has received numerous awards throughout his tenure at Penn State, including the Penn State Engineering Society's (PSES) Outstanding Teaching, Advising, and Research Awards as well as the PSES Premier Teaching Award, and the American Society for Engineering Education Dow Outstanding Young Faculty Award.

The PSIMES Faculty Appreciation Award recognizes current IE faculty members who have had a significant impact on the careers of alumni of the Penn State IE department. The PSIMES Board of Directors chooses the winner via closed ballot from faculty who were nominated by PSIMES members. Voigt will be formally presented with the award at the centennial celebration banquet in April.

PSIMES, an affiliate program group of the Penn State Engineering Society, works to stimulate the continued interest and professional development of all graduates of the industrial and manufacturing engineering department and acts as an informal advisory board to the head of the department. PSIMES strives to promote fellowship and communication among the alumni, faculty and students of the department in order to actively work for the improvement of the department and the College of Engineering.
