Harold and Inge Marcus Department of

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The first Industrial Engineering department in the world

Kudroff Lecture to be held Thursday

The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering will host the Marvin J. Kudroff Memorial Lecture on Thursday, April 2 at 4:15 in 102 Leonhard Building.

In celebration of 100 years of industrial engineering education, the department will begin its centennial celebration weekend by presenting one of the most highly regarded educators in IE history, Dr. Gavriel Salvendy.

Featured speaker, Gavriel Salvendy, Ph.D., Chair Professor and Head, Department of Industrial Engineering, Tsinghua University, and Emeritus Professor, Department of Industrial Engineering, Purdue University will speak about "What do we do and what should we do in Industrial Engineering Education Research and Practice."

Salvendy has a 40-year academic career where he has supervised over 50 doctoral dissertations and has authored more than 440 publications, including 30 books and 240 journal papers. His main research deals with the human aspects of design, operation, and management of advanced engineering systems. Salvendy serves as founding editor of two scientific journals, including the International Journal on Human-Computer Interaction and Human Factors and Ergonomics in Manufacturing.

Salvendy is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and a fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and the American Psychological Association. He is also the recipient of the John Fritz Medal, the engineering profession's highest award, and the John L. Imhoff Global Excellence Award for Industrial Engineering Education, presented by the American Society for Engineering Education.

The Marvin J. Kudroff Memorial Lecture was established at Penn State in 1981 to provide an annual lecture to engineering faculty and students by leaders in the field of engineering. The Kudroff Lecture alternates between the Architectural Engineering and the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering departments.
