Visiting Scholar Spotlight - Issachar Gilad, Ph.D.
Issachar Gilad, Ph.D., has been in the IE department on sabbatical since October 2008. Dr. Gilad is on the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management at Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology, where he has been the head of the Work Study & Ergonomics Laboratory for 30 years.
Dr. Gilad's professional interests include the areas of methods engineering and ergonomics, where he is involved in the design of man-machine processes, systems productivity, human performance analysis, occupational bio mechanics, and rehabilitation engineering.
While visiting Penn State, Dr. Gilad has collaborated with Dr. Andris Freivalds, professor of industrial engineering, to discover methods for enhancing productivity and decision making in hospital processes. He has also presented "Manufacturing in the Diamond Industry" during the IE 590 Distinguished Lecture Series.
Dr. Gilad is the former Chairman of the Israel Ergonomics Society. He is active on multiple professional advisory boards and a member of scientific editorial boards of top-rated industrial engineering and ergonomics journals. He has published in 100 publications, including professional journals and peer reviewed book chapters. In addition, Dr. Gilad has been working on a book during his stay at Penn State, entitled Measurement of Work - the Foundations of Industrial Engineering and Management.
Dr. Gilad received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Technion, and his Ph.D. from New York University. Prior to his visit to Penn State, Dr. Gilad had been a visiting professor at Dortmund University in Germany, the University of Michigan, and the University of California, Berkeley.
