Siemens Medical Solutions Makes $100K Cornerstone Partner Gift

The Center for Integrated Healthcare Delivery Systems (CIHDS) at Penn State has received a $100K gift from Siemens Medical Solutions, one of the world's largest suppliers to the healthcare industry and a trendsetter in medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics, and medical information technology.

CIHDS takes a modern approach to solving some of the healthcare industry's challenges by applying well-established systems principles to ongoing problems."Healthcare has been tinkered with on a piecemeal basis," says Steve Wagman '82 HHD, vice president and practice director at Siemens Medical Solutions. "The Center's holistic perspective is truly needed. The principles are not only timely, but accurate."

One of the Center's unique features is that it draws upon Penn State's expertise in several disciplines, including medicine, workforce development, and information sciences. "When you look at the disciplines that are being included here, it makes a lot of sense to bring these together to solve the problems, but it also trains the future professionals of healthcare," Wagman says. "This collaboration is very unique and it's something that as an employer and company we've been trying to drive internally."

"The gift from Siemens comes at a crucial time in the Center's development," says Harriet Black Nembhard, associate professor of industrial engineering and director of the Center. "Their generosity will help establish a concrete direction for progress."
