Harold and Inge Marcus Department of

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The first Industrial Engineering department in the world

Where can industrial engineers work?

Just about anywhere a process needs to be designed or improved - on an island in the middle of the South Pacific, if you like (see IE alumni Joe Luksic at right).

Industrial engineers can work in the obvious places like...

  • Manufacturing, such as microelectronics, aerospace or automotive
  • Research and development

or the not-so-obvious places like...

  • Service industries, such as banking, health care, insurance, transportation, and even theme parks

Theme parks?

Yes, theme parks. IE alumna Deborah Montague ('94) works at Walt Disney World as the manager of Labor Systems and Analysis. She says, "Penn State's Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering program prepared me for my dream job. The diverse education I received at Penn State provided me with the tools I need to solve the unique and complex challenges I face everyday at Walt Disney World."
